Back-ups are very important. This week has been hectic for me, why? I was using a old web hosting company that I had 3 full website's there still with them. I haven't had time to transfer to my web hosting services yet. So I left them there. After being with them for about a year and a half now; their server went down. Went down crashing for good. Wow, Amazing I still can't believe this. The database disappeared and the files of the entire site went down. Everything went down, I waited over a week for them to get up and running again. 2 days I got an email welcoming me again to their web hosting. New passwords and new server information and links.
I went ahead and log in to the Cpanel and I didn't see any of my website files, they were all gone. I contacted their tech support and the sync the files to the new server. I asked them hey what happened to my database. They said that they are not able to retrieve any databases and if I had back ups of them. If I had the back-ups they could put them back. I told them no; I don't have any back ups and what now. I am sorry we won't be able to help because they are not able to retrieve them back, This cannot happen! Imagine you running a online business and you only have that database, you would lose everything and had to reconstruct everything back again. What about your customers that you have there? their info.?
This is unacceptable but I guess their system is not ready for any damages, they don't have a plan B and just not ready for their customers. Good thing that I managed to find some old databases here and now those website's are on a better system. Never again would go back to a company like that! I am happy to say that creating back-ups of your website files and database could save you from long hours of work. You would have to build everything back from zero. So, yes please invest on a good web hosting company that actually helps you. Create back ups and invest on web security, it can pay off at the end. A website can be your only way of making a income and living. So treated it as is, an asset for your life and good living.
